Karla Cecilia is a Costa Rican-born photographer who lives and works in New Jersey. Her series titled The Space Between Us once began as an exploration of family closeness, seeking to survey and preserve moments of intimacy within the distant homes of her family members – New Jersey, Arizona, and Costa Rica. With the passing of time and accumulation of moments of closeness, an irony so powerful ensued. What once began as a collection of articulations of comfort and attachments, soon surpassed the keepsake initiative and grew into a much more complex measure of love, identity, and melancholy. See the series as it was meant to be seen @ the Petty Nobles event, May 5th.
